About Frascati
Since ancient times the Tusculanum area has been preferred by noble families; roman patrician, medieval barons, cardinal families and Popes as the ideal location to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in the Capital.
The landscape comprised of hills, lakes and woodland, the mild climate, and the distance from the summer humidity of Rome, coupled with the proximity to the Eternal City, gave birth to various unique architectonic treasures including Villas and summer resorts renowned for their size and the magnificence of their architecture. During the medieval period, powerful baronial families, especially the Tusculum Ears, settled on these hills, making the roman remains impregnable fortresses which gave the name to the "Castelli Romani".
Since the 17th century the hills surrounding Frascati were chosen by Cardinals to build residential villas with refined cultural elements. The noble families spared no expense in commissioning famous architects including Maderno, Fontana, Della Porta, Vanvitelli to build some of the most beautiful villas boasting landscaped gardens and fountains.
Set atop of one of hills is the magnificent Villa Tuscolana. Surrounded by the many benefits the Tusculanum area has to offer, the villa offers splendor and grandeur in a unique, Italian setting.
